Iowa Energy Forum at the Republican Party of Iowa Ames Straw Poll
August 13, 2011
On August 13th, the Republican Party of Iowa continued a Presidential campaign tradition by holding a Straw Poll in Ames. Over 700 journalists were credentialed to cover this event and nearly 17,000 Iowans traveled to Ames to cast an early vote in the Republican Presidential candidate selection process.
The Iowa Energy Forum had a presence at the Ames Straw Poll to highlight several important energy issues: access to petroleum and natural gas, the Keystone Pipeline, Canadian oil sands, hydraulic fracturing, and the importance of comprehensive energy policies that include a wide variety of sources. Exhibitors from the ethanol industry, wind, and solar power were on hand to display some of the newest technology and advances in their respective fields.

Energy voters from across Iowa organized to travel together to highlight the importance of comprehensive energy policy. Hundreds of energy voters descended on the Straw Poll in distinctive orange shirts to discuss the importance of bringing energy issues to the forefront of the campaign.
Throughout the day, Straw Poll attendees toured the Iowa Energy Forum Igloo to learn about energy industries. They also listened to remarks on energy from Olympian Dan Gable, local Des Moines talk radio host Jan Mickelson and national radio host/author Laura Ingraham.
The Iowa Energy Forum looks forward to continuing the discussion about our America’s need for sensible and comprehensive energy policies that promote jobs, economic growth and energy security.
